Working Together To Succeed

I am a freshman at Southern Connecticut State University. College is a new experience and very different than high school in many ways.  All of my classes are going very well and I am enjoying my entire college experience.  Unfortunately, the assigned readings, class material, and quizzes in my Western Civilization class are a bit difficult for me.  All of my courses are in a small classroom setting, however, Western Civilization class is a lecture in Engleman Hall and there many students in the class.  This creates a different type of classroom setting and atmosphere because the professor is unable to know each individual student and instead speaks to the students as a large group.

Many colleges and universities, including Southern Connecticut State University post coursework, assignments, grades, and quizzes online because the new technology of today allows teachers this opportunity.  Before the internet, students completed work and submitted it in paper form.  Now students can email their professors and submit papers and even assignments and projects online.  Students in the Western Civilization class must complete an online quiz every other Friday on Blackboard, which is the website that the professors at Southern use to deliver assignments and online information to students.  The quizzes are timed for twenty seven minutes, with twenty five questions.  The questions are from the chapters in the book that we were assigned to read that week and also class notes from the lectures.

I have been struggling to earn good grades on these quizzes, even though I have been reading the material.  I spoke with the teacher and my classmates and found that other students are doing well on these quizzes.  I need to study more in greater detail and also listen more attentively in class to succeed in Western Civilization and obtain a better grade in that class. I also asked classmates if we could study together so that I could improve my grades in this class.  I am meeting with a classmate in the Buley Library on campus this upcoming week to study for the quiz this Friday.  I am confident that I will not fail this class, but will admit that a failure is possible!
