Intrinsically
motivated behaviors are those that have no apparent reward except the activity
itself and a person simply enjoys the activity or assignment. For example, an intrinsically motivated
behavior is when a student is very interested in English while learning that topic
in school. Extrinsically motivated
behaviors have a tangible reward such as money, prizes, or other benefits. Extrinsically motivated behaviors can also
include intangible rewards such as social approval, a sense of worthiness, or
the avoidance of punishment. An
extrinsically motivated behavior may be a student who wants to succeed during a
class in order to win a prize and does not actually enjoy learning the material.
Growth mindset
means to have the desire to improve, achieve goals, embrace challenges, and
overcome obstacles which leads to higher levels of achievement. Fixed mindset means to have a negative
outlook and feel that they cannot succeed.
Therefore, they avoid challenges and give up easily and feel that others
who succeed are just lucky. It is
important to have a growth mindset in order to be successful in life.
Shakespeare
wrote, “There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so” and his quote
relates to the above topics because he explains that the mind is in control
over the success and happiness of a person.
If a person has a positive attitude and is intrinsically motivated to do
well, then they will achieve their goals.
If a person thinks negatively, then they will not be able to overcome
challenges or effectively use constructive criticism.
I believe that
I have a positive attitude and am intrinsically motivated to succeed in my life
and therefore I have a growth mindset.
